A new walk and cycle way along the route of the old Cavan/Leitrim railway.

Ballinamore Tourism are delighted to see that work has started on the Ballinamore Greenway demonstration stretch. This new walk and cycle demonstration stretch is part of an overal project to  constructed a full Greenway on the track's of the old disused narrow gauge Cavan and Leitrim railway line. From Mohill to Belturbet, over 40km

It will provide access to a rich variety of local landscapes including bogs, woodland, lake and canal side views. Much of the route is in the foothills of the Sliabh an Iarainn and Sliabh Rushen mountains.

The Greenway demonstration stretch will extend for around 2.3km, from the Junction project (former St Felims College and Railway station) at the northern end of the town, it  will go past Park Fé housing estate, Ballinamore Community College and on to Corgar Lake. The trail will provide a safe and convenient off-road route. It is expected to be completed in August 2020 and it is hoped that the next stretch from Corgar to Aughawillan (2.5km) will be able to start as soon as funding becomes available.

The project is partership between Leitrim County Council / Leader and Ballinamore Development Company.

When this project is completed it will be a wonderful asset to our community giving locals and visitors an extra beautiful place to walk or cycle.

Huge thanks to Gerry D’Arcy greenway committee & Ballinamore Development company for all their hard work!
