Fenagh Drama Group performing – Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rdMarch Fenagh Community Centre
It is exciting and wonderful news for our community that , after a lapse of more than fifty years , Fenagh Drama Troupe has been reformed , and rehearsals are well on the way to staging Jimmy Keary’s outrageously and hilariously funny 3-Act Comedy Play , “ The Maiden Aunt “. Fenagh had an outstanding drama troupe , each year staging their play in Lent , when , at that time,  public dances were not allowed during the six weeks of Lent . The bands were silent . So the drama troupes,  in almost every rural parish, were ready to  bring wonderful drama entertainment to the parish halls during the six weeks of Lent . The troupes staged their play in the local hall , and then set out to neighbouring parish halls to bring enjoyment to appreciative audiences . There are some who still recall the great Fenagh productions of the 1940s and early 1950s . The actors were household names in the parish , and also in adjoining parishes , proudly presenting such plays as , “ The Young Fellow “ , “ A Damsel from Dublin “ , “ Banns and Plans “ , “ Wigs on the Green “ , “ The Men in Possession “ , and “ The Rale Mc Coy “ . In the early 1960s there was a short revival with productions of “ Troubled Bachelors “ and “ An old Acquaintance “. With such an illustrious background of drama in the parish it is truly exciting that the drama troupe has been reformed . The great news , also , is that the production team has unearthed outstanding acting talent , many of whom were involved when Fenagh GAA Club won the Novelty Act in the All Ireland Final of Senior Scor , some years back . So mark the dates , Friday , 2nd and Saturday , 3rd March , when this talented Fenagh Drama Troupe will have audiences rolling with laughter in our beautiful and comfortable Fenagh Community Centre . Appropriately the first productions are in Lent !
