The final of the Francis McGirl Memorial Cup which was to be played last Friday night, was postponed due to bad weather,it will be played at a later stage.The finals of the Drino Cup will go ahead as planned next Friday night the 9th of March.Venue is Freddie’s starting time 10pm.


And give you an update on where your generous donations went.You may remember we had a huge fundraiser night on the 1st of April Last year In The Poor Scholar – S.O.S. Shave Our Sean and we cannot thank everyone enough for your generosity with donations and continued support, we have been overwhelmed by it all and are thrilled to say the total raised is29,023.98 and people are still contributing.With the journey taken myself and the committee decided to distribute the money among various charities related to Cancer, all of which are beneficial to so many people in many different ways local and other. The beneficiaries are as follows…. Irish Cancer Society, St. Luke’s Rathgar (Activity Centre), Cavan Oncology Unit, Sligo Hospital Oncology Unit Trust (SHOUT), Sligo Cancer Support Group, Letterkenny Oncology Comfort Fund, Look Good Feel Better (a free service that supports women with visible side effects of cancer) and Laura Lynn Hospice.Once again thank you from team S.O.S. we wish those beginning and in the middle of similar journeys all our love and best wishes and those who have passed on you are not forgotten.

Aughawillan Drama Troupe - Drinking Habits “2” by Tom Smith - A Comedy

Dear Reader. Fenagh Drama Troupe

After 55 years absence from the stage Fenagh Drama Troupe has been reformed and will perform the hilariously funny 3 Act Comedy play, “The Maiden Aunt “ by Jimmy Keary on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd March in Fenagh Community Centre with curtains at 8:30pm. With local characters taking to the Stage these are nights not to be missed with guaranteed laughter for all in attendance. Andy Redican is directing this troupe who are anxious to ensure entertainment is provided so mark your calendars!!

Saint Patrick's Day

So the countdown starts .. the theme of this year's parade is " the future holds ..." you need to start working on your costumes, floats and window displays now... the time is short.. the parade begins at 1 o clock all floats and entries meeting on the tesco road at 12:20... anyone available to steward please let us know. There is entertainment, goodies for all the kids, and prizes for best dressed window, best dressed adult and child, best float, best on foot and many more.... it's on a Saturday so no excuses... looking forward to seeing you all there. Leitrim Astronomy Club
"Leitrim Astronomy Club is delighted to welcome NUI Maynooth physicist, Dr. Creidhe Sullivan to County Leitrim to give a lecture on 'New Views of the Early Universe' at Ballinamore County Library, Tuesday March 20 @ 7:30pm. Dr. O'Sullivan is at the forefront of research on the subject of the early universe and so this lecture is not to be missed. For a General Audience & All Welcome (children must be accompanied by adult)."

Ballinamore Family Festival AGM
The AGM of the Ballinamore Family Festival will take place on Tuesday, 13th March 2018 at 8pm in Smyths Siopa Ol, Main Street, Ballinamore.A decision will be made at this meeting regarding the future of the Festival and whether or not it will run in 2018!Anyone with an interest in the Festival is asked to please make every effort to attend. 54 Dancers Qualify for All Ireland Championship

After three days of intense competition at the Connaught Regional Irish Dancing Championships in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway, 54 pupils from the Mc Cartin SD came away with prizes galore and more importantly qualification for the CRN All Ireland Irish Dancing Championships which will be held in May. The successful dancers competed in both solo and Céilí teams competitions and collected in excess of 200 awards. The successful dancers are as follows:

Continues this Wednesday night with Corn Mill Theatre Group's presentation of "Waiting for Godot" by Samuel Beckett. Anyone who saw this already in Corn Mill Theatre, says it is a wonderful production and one not to be missed.
Thursday night 8th Ennis Players bring us "Stolen Child" by Yvonne Quinn/Bairbre Ní Chaoimh. Friday 9th "The Beauty Queen of Leenane" by Martin McDonagh will be performed by Enniscorthy Drama Group.
"PROOF" by David Auburn is presented to us on Sat 10th by Wexford Drama Group and on Sunday 11th, last years winners in the Confined Section, Sillan Players from Shercock will present "Una Pooka" by Michael Harding. They have already won awards with this production. Then on Tuesday 13th Ballcogley Players will present Conor McPherson's "The Night Alive". Unfortunately they had to cancel last Sunday due to being snowed in, so come along and show them some support. Plays start nightly at 8pm. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

Ballinamore Writers Group.

The newly formed Ballinamore Writers Group holds their weekly meetings in the library each Monday at 10am.  New members welcome, no need to book in advance, just come along on the morning.

Stations of the Cross:  One of the great traditions of Lent is “ Doing the Stations of the Cross” daily or having Sunday evening  Lent devotions. This Lent  it  is planned to have the Stations of the Cross    each Sunday at 7pm in Ballinamore Church.

Wed March 14th :  Internet safety and drug and Alcohol Awareness -  Hugh Brady will give insights on how to keep our children safe on the internet, what parents have to look out for and what practical steps to take to ensure this safety.  Grainne Duignan works with the Foroige on the Youth Alcohol and drug education/prevention project and will speak about drug and Alcohol use in our young people and the programmes that is being currently run with our youth here in Ballinamore. 

Wed March 21st : Family and Spirituality – Dominic Peron is a broadcaster with a Christian radio station and will speak about faith and family.  As a father himself of young children Dominic will share his insights on why faith is important and ways of nurturing this faith in our families. 

All Talks will take place in Ballinamore Community Centre at 8pm.  Everyone most welcome.

Monaghan Institute invites you to "A Survival Guide for Leaving Cert Students & Parents" on

Thursday, 8th March, 2018 at 6.pm.  This free information session will be led by Brian Mooney, The Irish Times Education Expert, and forms part of the College Open Day that runs from 11am to 7pm.  All Leaving Cert students and parents are encouraged to attend.

Open Day at Cavan Institute on Thursday 15th March 2018 from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm  on Cathedral Road. This is an ideal opportunity for prospective applicants to sample the wide range of courses and facilities on offer.  There will be an extensive range of activities on the day, which will be beneficial to students in selecting third level options and planning for future careers. The main features of the Open Day include a career’s exhibition, information sessions, demonstrations, workshops and laboratory visits.  Students will have the opportunity to meet with tutors and current students who will be available to answer any queries.  Organised tours will be available  throughout the day.

Seamus O’Rourke’s Production of ‘From Under the Bed’ in aid of Ballinamore Childcare,which was postponed due to weather, has been refixed for Sunday 4th March at 8pm in Ballinamore Community Centre.  


will NOT open on this Sunday as the Ballycogley Players are "Snowed In" in Wexford. Festival will now OPEN on Monday 5th at 8pm sharp with the Bradán Players, Leixlip's production of Conservatory by Michael West. A ot of hard work has gone into organising this event, so please come along, at least one night, to show your support. Season Tickets are on sale in Murphy's Newsagents, St. Brigid Street.
