LEITRIM FLOWERS  -  Cut Flower Growers

Autumn 2017 Training Courses
October 01           Plant and Seed Propagation
November 17 - 19    Establishing a Cut Flower Business

Courses at Leitrim Flowers are informative, enjoyable and interactive. Our horticultural and landscaping experience, along with our environmental awareness and knowledge of Irish wildlife, mean that the time spent at Leitrim Flowers is practical and enjoyable.
The October 01 course is held on a Sunday - starting at 10am and finishing at 4pm - and cost E65, which includes tea/coffee on arrival and a home-cooked lunch.
The November Cut Flower Business course is a three-day course and costs E270. It covers all aspects of setting up a cut flower business, from cultivating land, erecting polytunnels, choosing seeds, environmental considerations, choice of plants, selling outlets, farmers’ markets, weddings and so on. We hold this course twice a year and it fills up almost immediately. Places are limited to ten persons.
Courses are held in a restored cottage on our land where we have created a cottage garden that we use specifically for training courses. The garden has been designed and planted so that it acts as a useful tool for courses. The plants (trees and bushes also) are perennial, cottage garden favourites and all can be cut and used for bunches, bouquets and floral arrangements.
Leitrim Flowers is based in Annaghnamaddoo, Kilnagross, Co. Leitrim, which is six miles from Carrick on Shannon and four miles from the N4. We are less than an hour from Sligo and an hour and three quarters from the M50.
Carrick on Shannon is an interesting town with a great array of hotels, B&Bs, restaurants, shops and bars. Situated on the Shannon and with a lovely marina, Carrick is a great place to spend a few days. Carrick is also very well served by bus and train connections.
We can recommend a local B&B that does a very good deal for Leitrim Flowers. Her price includes a good evening meal.

The popular Summer Stars Reading Adventure is running in all public libraries throughout the county this summer. Summer Stars is a free programme, open to all children. Each child who registers for the programme can join in the fun of reading lots of exciting books during the summer. Children will receive their own Summer Stars Reading Card to record their progress and the Summer Stars Reward Stamp will be added to their card at the library for each book read.

Fun rewards will be provided along the way. At the end of the programme, all children who have participated will be invited to attend an awards event. Children and families will also have access to fun reading activities on the Summer Stars website, www.summerstars.ie. This site has lots of fun activities, games, Talking Ebooks, stories, reading tips, book suggestions by age group and interviews with children’s authors and other celebrities. The programme will run to the end of August and children can register at any point during this time. The challenge is a fantastic way of encouraging children to keep reading during their holidays at a time when reading levels tend to drop.
