Clothes Collection

On behalf of Fr Nicolas Ngulutu of St Joseph Parish, Kavisuni, Diocese of Kitui, Kenya.  All types of clean ladies, gents & children’s clothing and paired shoes.  Thurs 21 April, outside St Patrick’s Church Ballinamore.  Before 12 noon.

Darts

The first semi-final of the Ballinamore League Cup was played last Friday night in the Poor Scholar between McGirl’s and Jackie’s, after some very close and exciting games McGirl’s came out on top on a score line of 5 games to 2 McGirl’s.  Tony McHugh, Michael McGirl, Gerry Mahon, Damien McGovern and Enda Lyons played great darts.  For Jackie’s Poric McKeon and Robin McIntyre played well.  Thanks to Ciaran Hearty, Michael Hearty and Ian Flynn for marking the game, thanks to all who bought tickets in our raffle, thanks to Dawn Flynn for selling tickets, thanks to David for sponsorship and refreshments on the night.  
The second semi-final takes place next Friday night 22nd between the Poor Scholar and Bank Bar, the venue is McGirl’s starting time 10.30pm.

Fashion show

in The Standing Stone hotel, Ballinamore, on Friday, 22nd April at 8.30pm. Fantastic variety of suppliers include Fashionista, Gerard Anthony, Ruche, Purple Orange, Carrie Bradshaw shoes, Jennifer Wrynne Hats. Raffle and entertainment by McCartin School of IRISH Dancing. Proceeds to Aughawillan GAA club. Tickets €10. Come along for a great nights entertainment.

Church Street, Ballinamore, Sunday Service is at 12.15pm every Sunday except on the 4th Sunday which is held in Drumreilly Church, Drumreilly.

Recent Deaths:  We pray for the soul of Patricia O’Grady (nee Gormley) of Manchester and formerly Corrahole.  Funeral mass took place on Saturday.  Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.
Baptism: We welcome Manu James Regan into our Church Community as he received the sacrament of Baptism on the 9th April.  Congratulations to his parents.

Job Seeking Skills Course

County Leitrim Job Club will be running a Job seeking skills course in The Enterprise Centre, Ballinamore starting on Tuesday 3rd May and running for four weeks. This course covers all aspects of job seeking and basic computer skills.  An attendance allowance is available to participants on this programme. Writing Workshop

A writing Workshop for adults will be held in Ballinamore Library on Saturday 23 April from 10.30am to 12.30pm.  The workshop will be facilitated by writer and poet Gerry Boland who will also read from his second collection of poetry “In the Space Between”, recently published by Arlene House. Seán Mac Diarmada Travelling Suitcase at Ballinamore Library

In recent weeks we have all been immersed in the events of 1916 and in Leitrim we are doing much to commemorate the Rising and to honour our most famous son, Seán Mac Diarmada. In 2008 the Adam’s and Mealy’s auctioneers combined to hold a large ‘Independence’ auction of historic memorabilia.  This was held in the Adam’s auction house on Stephen’s Green, Dublin on the 15th April 2008. A very glossy catalogue was produced and there were over 700 items to go under the hammer.  Among them were a number of artefacts in relation to Seán Mac Diarmada, mostly notably, his small leather travelling case which he used while travelling the country to various meetings.  Mary Conefrey from the County Library attended the auction on behalf of Leitrim County Council with a particular brief.  Bidding was both keen and brisk but in the end a number of artefacts were bought including Mac Diarmada travelling suitcase. This exhibit is now on display in Ballinamore Library throughout April as it features as the ‘Item of the Month’. Everyone is invited to visit the Library to see this item.  Opening hours are Monday, Wednesday & Friday 10 - 5.30; Tuesday & Thursday 10 - 8; Saturday 10 – 5, daily lunch closing 1.30 – 2.30pm.

Lakelands Angling Club Ballinamore

Junior Angling Club

We would like to announce the formation of a brand new Junior Angling Club based in the Ballinamore area, the ethos behind the club is to get youngsters away from the TV and games boxes and into the outdoors to be taught how to fish and learn about the wonderful environment we  live in.
The club is affiliated to the National Coarse Fishing Federation of Ireland and is a designated hub with the Angling For Youth Development initiative, which provides all the tackle required to get the youngsters started. We have qualified Garda vetted male and female coaches that aim to provide a safe and fun place to learn.
The club is also open for memberships for adults (male and female) that already enjoy angling or would like to get into angling with coaching and friendly competitions on offer.

Slave Auction

On Saturday next 23rd Brenda Prior and Niall Faughnan are holding a Slave Auction to raise funds for “Mohill does Strictly” in Priors of Ballinamore at 9pm. A great chance to get your lawn mowed, your chimney or windows cleaned, or God only knows what else.

Mohill does strictly

Alice McTague a true blue Seán Ó Heslin supporter is giving of her time to dance for “Mohill does Strictly”. We hope all the people of the area will come to the Landmark on Friday April 29th and support Alice. Tickets available for €20 for the night

Jiving Competition

The last event of the "Mohill does Strictly" campaign will be a Jiving Competition in The Standing Stone Ballinamore on Sunday evening at 8pm. Mary McGirl and Brendan Reynolds  have arranged this event and it will be great fun to watch.      

Safetalk Training 

which prepares participants to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources. will take place in the Kilmore Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Cullies, Cavan on  Wednesday 11 May 2016 from 9:30a.m. to 1:00p.m. There is no cost for this training.  For further information, please contact Emer Mulligan, Resource Officer for Suicide Prevention, HSE Cavan-Monaghan Mental Health Services, on 086 1717563 or by e-mail to emer.mulligan@hse.ie.  The closing date for receipt of applications is Wednesday 27 April 2016.

A discussion group on "The Implications of the Resurrection for us today" facilitated by Fr. Eamonn Bredin takes place every Thursday evening in the Kilmore Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Cullies, Cavan from 7:30p.m. to 9:30p.m. from now until Pentecost.  €5 subscription each evening, please.  Refreshments served.
