Athletic club summer training begins

Ballinamore Athletic Club summer training begins this week after the Easter break and will be held at St Felim's each Tuesday and Thursday at 7.00 p.m. Competitors will be prepared for the upcoming Primary and Post Primary Schools Championships, the Leitrim and Connacht Inter Club competitions and the Community Games Athletics events.  The first competition will be the Leitrim Primary Schools Championships at the end of April. New members are welcome to join any evening. Ballinamore's Colin  Griffin was also a beneficiary of the recent Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling that Russian athletes who had infringed anti doping regulations must lose awards which they had achieved. This resulted in Loughrea's Olive Loughnane being elevated from runner up to 2009 World 20K Walk Champion and Robert Heffernan elevated to bronze medal position in the 2012 London Olympic Games.  Colin Griffin had finished an excellent fifteenth in the World Cup of Racewalking in Saransk, Russia, in May 2012 and he has now been elevated to twelfth position in the official results.

The fare from Ballinamore to Dromod is very moderate and for Free Pass holders there is no charge for bus or train. Moreover for any free pass holder who has additional requirements or no connecting transport there is the facility to contact Local Link at 9650437 and they will help out. This excellent service is the culmination of a long campaign by Ballinamore Area Community Council to provide a same day Dublin link from Ballinamore and it is important that maximum use be made of it to ensure it's continuation.
