Ballinamore Whist Drive

The monthly whist drive in Ballinamore Community centre takes place on next Thursday 3rdMarch at 8:30pm, we are calling on all card players to please come along and support , There will be wonderful prizes and tea and refreshments at half time. So why not come along, bring a friend and enjoy a good night. All Welcome.

Aughawillan Drama Breaking News

Don’t be disappointed if you weren't able to get to see the show "Mother Knows Best", we have great pleasure in announcing that the decision has just been made to run the play for some extra nights.  This is due to the huge demand and popularity we have seen for the past few nights.  We apologise to anyone who travelled to see us and couldn’t get in, we hope you will come again.  Dates have yet to be announced but keep an eye on your local notes and like Aus on Aughawillan Drama Facebook for update.  Also listen out to Shannon side northern sound.

The Leitrim Irish Draught Breeders Association

Darts resume next Friday night the 4th of March with the first round of the League Cup sponsored by the Ballinamore League.  The draw is as follows: first named teams have home venues – Abbey Bar V the Bank Bar.  The Commercial Hotel V Jackie’s. McGirl’s V Poor Scholar starting time 10.30pm.

Cara Chemists

Marie Keating Cancer Mobile Unit will be at cara pharmacy Drumshanbo on Friday March 4th form 11 am to 3 pm.  The cancer nurses will be available for free consultations and to supply information on simple changes we can all make to reduce our cancer risk.

Women’s Group

A meeting of Ballinamore women’s group takes place  on Wednesday 2nd March at 8pm. Plans for the coming year will be made at the meeting. All members are asked to attend refreshments will be served.


The committee would like to thank everyone for their generous contribution at the Defibrillator church gate collection 2 weeks ago.
If there is anyone who would like to start the Cpr and Defib course, we are starting one on Sat 12th March. Please contact Marcella McKiernan on 087 6962928. Places are limited but if we are unable to facilitate you on this course we will be having another one in the next few months.
We would also like to bring to your attention the location of the defibrillators in the town in case of an emergency.
We have 2 in total. One is on the outside wall of Smiths Funeral Directors Office, High st.
The other is on the wall of the Community centre front porch ( Hall beside the canal).

Ballinamore Childcare

are holding an information & enrollment evening for  their preschools Lollipop kids & An Naíonra on Monday the 14th of March in the old vocational school, Ballinamore at 7pm. Ballinamore Drama Festival

The opening night of Ballinamore Drama festival is Sunday March 6th at 8.30pm in Ballinamore Community Centre with the Backstage Theatre Group from Longford and continues until Sunday March 13 with the Ballycogley  Players from Wexford. During the week we have Sillian Players Shercock, Killeshandra Drama Group, Pheonix Players Tubbercurry, Corn Mill Theatre Group, Dalkey Players and Castleblaney Players. So if you haven't enough drama with the election we will continue it for another week. Looking forward to seen our reliable supporters again this year and we hope a few more newcomers will come along to ensure the continuation of this great week of drama annually.

Invitation to Ballinamore St. Patricks Day Parade

So folks it has been a quick year and St. Patrick is planning to come to town again. He needs help to make the parade a success so he is inviting you all to join in. Any community groups, businesses or individuals that would like to take part please meet on Thursday 17th March at Tesco car park at 3:30 to assemble for parade at 4 pm. Those who wish to be a spectator you will also need get your fancy green gear on. The theme this year is “IRISH IS ...?" so what does it mean to you? It is quite broad so get you thinking caps on. Like every year if you would like to volunteer to help with the parade please contact Dawn.(She is even closer to retirement this year!!) We will not be posting letters out this year so spread the word. And Remember there are lots of prizes and goodies on the day along with traditional entertainment. All new acts are welcome. Visiting Priests: Next weekend priests within the St.Brigid’s Pastoral Area which includes the parishes of Corlough, Carrigallen , Killeshandra and Oughteragh will rotate to celebrate mass in different churches. Fr. Donald Hannon from Arva will celebrate the 7pm mass on Sat  in Ballinamore and the 10am mass on Sun in Aughnasheelin and Fr. Denis Murray will celebrate the 11.30am mass on Sun in Ballinamore.

Lecture: The 1916 Centenary: What are we Commemorating and Why?

On Thursday, 3 March 2016, Ballinamore Library will present a lecture at 8.00p.m. by Professor Gearóid Ó Tuathaigh, which will explore the topic of Commemoration. Professor Ó Tuathaigh is one of Ireland’s most popular and most respected historians, and has just appeared on our television screens in the very successful documentary series, 1916. He has recently retired from the History Dept., NUIG, where he had a long and distinguished career. He continues with his studies and writes for various academic publications. He is in constant demand for lectures and Leitrim County Library Service are privileged and pleased to welcome him to Ballinamore. Enquiries: 071-9645564.
