BALLINAMORE TOURISM MEETING

A meeting will be held next Monday 18th January at 8.30pm in Ciaran’s Smyth Bar, all members requested to attend, new members very welcome.

BALLINAMORE TOURISM CHURCH GATE COLLECTION 16th & 17th January

A collection for Ballinamore Tourism will be held this coming Saturday and Sunday 16th and 17th January.  All funds go to help promote Ballinamore and surrounding areas.

BALLINAMORE BRIDGE CLUB

The next meeting of Ballinamore bridge club is on Thursday 14th January at 7pm.

IRISH DANCE CLASSES

Irish dance classes with the McCartin SD recommence in Drumreilly Community Centre on Tuesday 12th and Thursday 14th January and Ballinamore Community Centre on Saturday 16th January. Further details on 0879751872 or www.facebook.com/mccartinsd.

BLOOD TRANSFUSION MOBILE UNIT TEAM

The Blood Transfusion mobile unit team will return again to the Community Centre, Ballinamore on Wednesday 20thJanuary 2016.  It will be open from 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.  If you can attend the clinic, the best time would be from 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.  Some 3000 units/pints of blood are needed overall each week to cater for emergency and routine cases requiring transfusions of blood and blood products in hospitals all over the country.  Thanks to everyone who attended the last clinic in September when we had a total of 113 donations.  Please come again to the Community Centre, Ballinamore on Wednesday 20th January, 2016 and bring a friend.

The aim of the Mohill Family Support Ballinamore Outreach Service is to facilitate and support individuals and their families in the community in becoming actively involved in identifying and meeting their social, personal and educational needs.  By doing this we hope to empower them to improve the quality of their lives.

Advice and support for individuals & families, Personal Development, Parent and Toddler Groups - People Parenting Alone - Youth Group - Youth Café, Children’s Arts and Crafts, Children’s Drama,Carer Support Group, Rainbows Programme,  Active Age,  Professional Arts Therapy Service, Professional Play Therapy Service - Professional Counselling Service, Outreach Service, Practical Assistance to Community Groups, Rooms to Hire, Administrative Service - photocopying, faxing, binding and laminating, Phone Directory and Information Centre.

DARTS

Results from last Friday night’s games in the Francis McGirl Cup Competition were McGirls (5) Jackie’s (4) Bank Bar (5) Poor Scholar (4). The game between Fenagh and Drumcoura will be played later due to a bereavement. The points total with two games left before semi-finals are Jackie’s 44 points, McGirl’s 43 points, Bank Bar 31 points, Poor Scholar 29 points, Fenagh and Drumcoura have 30 points each with a game in hand.

ANNUAL NEW YEAR’S DRAW

Everyone at Ballinamore Sean O’Heslin’s would like to thank all of you who supported this years’ annual New Year’s draw which took place on Sunday 3rd January in Priors. Special thanks to Gay Prior and staff for hosting a great night and also to Gay on his generous sponsoring of our 2nd prize of €1,000. Gay has been a wonderful supporter for the team over the years and his continued support is greatly appreciated. Thanks also to our wonderful ticket sellers, they are an excellent group of individuals who give up a great deal of time travelling the length and breadth of the County in all weather and without their tremendous effort the draw would not have been a success. We must off course also thank each and every one of you that purchased a ticket, your support ensures that the club will be in a healthy position for the coming year. Sympathy: We pray for the soul of Patricia Dolphin, High Street, whose funeral took place on 30th December. Our sympathy to her family.
Congratulations to Mark Dolan & Elaine O’Connor, Gavin Sammon & Claire Stewart who both received the Sacrament of Marriage on the 28th December. We wish both couples a happy & healthy life together.  
Baptism: We welcome Elliott Mel Murphy into our church community, as he received the sacrament of baptism on the 3rd January. Congratulations to his parents.
A word of Thanks: A sincere word of thanks to all who assisted in any way in our churches and community in the lead up to and over the Christmas Season. Thanks to all who set up the lovely Advent  Wreaths , those who erected the Lovely Cribs, the Christmas Trees, and those who cleaned and decorated the two churches so beautifully for Christmas. Our thanks also to the choirs and organists , the altar servers and to all who participated in the Christmas liturgies.
I wish to take this opportunity to thank members of the Parish Pastoral Council , the Liturgy Committees , the Finance Committees and to all who help out in our churches during the year, the Sacristans, Eucharistic Ministers, Readers, Organists, Choirs, Altar Servers and their Parents, Parish Safeguarding Rep., Collectors and those who count record and lodge collections, all who help and maintain church grounds and cemeteries, Members of the Boards of Management of our schools and to all parish and community organisations who  enhance and improve  the quality of life  for a great number of our people. WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR IRISH?

Irish conversation classes, or Ciorcal Comhrá, will start again in Ballinamore Library on Tuesday next, 12 January at 8.00pm. There are separate groups for relative beginners, for those who have some Irish and for those who are fluent. These classes are a great opportunity to practice the Irish you know and to improve it. Also, Leaving Cert or transitional year students will find it useful for practice for their Irish orals. Classes are free and will run for 10 weeks to mid March. DRUMSHANBO ENTERPRISE CENTRE  SPRING 2016 CLASSES

Classes will commence in Drumshanbo Enterprise Centre on the week starting Monday the 18th of January. There are limited places still available for a QQI (Fetac) level 4 award in Information and Communication Technology Skills and a QQI (Fetac) level 3 award in General Learning. ATHLETIC CLUB

The Athletic Club  will, as last year, organise the Ballinamore Operation Transformation Walk in conjunction with Leitrim Sports Partnership on Saturday next. All are welcome to taker part in what will be more an enjoyable than a strenuous activity if weather permits. Those taking part should check in at the Sports Hall before 10.00 a.m.    Normal Club training resumes on Tuesday January 12th at 6.00 p.m.

Church Street, Ballinamore, Sunday Service is at 12.15pm every Sunday except on the 4th Sunday which is held in Drumreilly Church, Drumreilly.

A CLOSER LOOK - ART EXHIBITION

As part of the Children’s Art Exhibition in Solas Art Gallery, first and second year Art Students from Ballinamore Community School are exhibiting their talents with the theme "A Closer Look" These students have chosen an image from nature. Whilst learning painting techniques and exploring with colour and texture with acrylic paints, each child has brought their own individual talents onto canvas. The exhibition opens on sat 16th Jan. PROGRESSIVE 25 CARD GAME

Progressive 25 Winter/Spring League commences this Thursday January 14th, in Fenagh Community Centre at 8.30. League prizes (Sponsored by Connefry's Abbey Bar), Nightly prizes and Jackpots. Entry €8 with refreshments served. All new players welcome. Proceeds in aid of Fenagh Handball Club.

OPERATION TRANSFORMATION WALK A SUCCESS

Despite the wet morning and the early starting time sixty walkers turned out last Saturday morning for the Ballinamore Operation Transformation Walk organised by Ballinamore Athletic Club on behalf of the Leitrim Sports Partnership. All enjoyed the healthy exercise, the interaction with fellow walkers and the refreshments afterwards. Those interested in follow up group walks should contact 071 9644207 or email ballinamorelass@gmail.com without delay and suitable walking or running groups will be organised to meet all requirements. Normal club training resumed this Tuesday at 6 00 p.m. after the Christmas break and will continue on Tuesday and Thursday at the Sports Hall on Tuesday and Thursday until mid-March with emphasis on general fitness training and preparation for forthcoming Leitrim, Connacht and Sports Hall Indoor competitions. Walks and runs can be organised for those interested during the training time. New participants welcome at all times.
