When the Christmas lights are switched on in Ballinamore each year our minds tend to turn to events such as the Paris Climate Change Conference or The Annual Christmas Quiz for Palestine and when is it on? Well it's on Sunday 27th December in Mc Girls at 9.30pm sharpish. Many questions will be asked on the night such as Did anyone bring a pen with them? What table number are we? and Where did we come? Also many answers will be answered and that's how Table Quizzes generally work.
If for whatever reason you missed the last ten years (was away, was at home, was away in a home, got nights mixed up, got venues mixed up, couldn't get a baby sitter, couldn't get a house sitter, was playing a match, was on Jury Duty or was playing Tour of Duty) then why not come along this year to the 11th.

The Ballinamore Library ‘Picture of the month’ for December is a framed illuminated address to Rev. C. Nangle C.C. from the Committee of the Kiltoghert Co-Operative and Agricultural Society in 1913.
An article printed in Leitrim Observer at the time stated ‘On St Patrick’s day a deputation on behalf of the Kiltoghert Co-Operative and Agricultural Society, of which the Reverend Nangle has been many years President, made an address and presentation to him, as a mark of appreciation of the many estimable services he has done for it since its initiation to the locality.  Father Nangle C.C. who was for many years in charge of the important curacy of Gowel was in every sense of the term a “Soggarth Aroon” and on his retirement some months ago, his parishioners in a substantial manner placed on record their views of the splendid work he had done for Gowel since he took charge of that historic parish.
At a meeting of the Society, which was one of the most flourishing societies in the West of Ireland, members decided to fittingly mark their regard for all that Father Nangle had done on their behalf, and expressed their delight that he would continue to take an active interest in their affairs, which he had so capably conducted in the past.  Accordingly the deputation went to Father Nangle at his residence and made a handsome presentation to him and the members of the deputation were hospitably entertained by Father Nangle’.
The Address was signed by John Deignan, Secretary, also includes the names of other members of the Society. The illuminated address was the work of Miss Fitzpatrick, 192 Clonliffe Road, Drumcondra, Dublin, and was described as one of the best productions in the country,  and as a work of art, it reflected great credit on the artist.
This unique piece forms ‘Picture of the Month in Ballinamore Library throughout December, opening hours are Mon, Wed & Fri 10 - 5.30; Tues &  Thur 10 - 8; Sat 10 – 5, with daily lunch closing 1.30 – 2.30pm.

The night alone was a great success and thank you all for turning up and we hope you enjoyed it and hope your visit with the big man will be well worth it on Christmas Day.  An estimated crowd of over 300 people turned up. Thank you to all our sponsors/ business people and the people who supply their electricity.
The other big big big thank you go out to the volunteers that put over 80 hours into the lights this year... night after night you know who you are. The help on the night, people who helped to set up the grotto and music, the elves, the fire brigade, the fireworks men, our steward’s. This is the best town in Leitrim and a night like this makes it all worthwhile. Thank you so much to our special guests from Frozen Olaf and Elsa. And of course Santa you are the best.....
