SEÁN MAC DIARMADA TALK FOR BALLINAMORE

A very interesting lecture will take place in Ballinamore Library on Friday 27 November. The speaker is Gerard MacAtasney, who is acknowledged as the expert on the life of both Seán Mac Diarmada and Tom Clarke.
With the centenary of the 1916 Rising just around the corner there is particular interest in the event in Leitrim as it is now acknowledged that Seán Mac Diarmada from Kiltyclogher was the chief planner and motivator for the Rising. He was greatly assisted by Tom Clarke, whose father was from Carrigallen.
Gerard MacAtasney has written biographies of both men and he has a wealth of knowledge on their role in the Rising. The lecture entitled “Seán Mac Diarmada: inside the mind of the Revolution” will cover Mac Diarmada’s life with references also to Clarke.  The event is being organised by the Ballinamore Area 1916 Commemoration Committee and it the first in a series of events planned for next year to commemorate the Rising.  The lecture in Ballinamore Library on Friday 27 November will start at 8.00pm.
