POKER CLASSIC IN AID OF DEFIB ASSOCIATION IN SHORTT’S BAR

Poker Classic will be held in Shortt’s Bar on Friday night the 27th November.  All funds raised will go to the upkeep of the defibrillators in Ballinamore.  Prize money for all who make the last table.  Spot Prizes and refreshments on the night.  1st Deal will commence at 10pm, please come in time to support a good cause.

TABLE QUIZ

The Ballinamore Men’s Shed are holding their Annual Table Quiz on Friday the 27th November in Smyth’s Siopa Ol Bar and Restaurant, Main Street, Ballinamore at 9.30pm (4 to each table).  As this is our main funding event of the year your support would be greatly appreciated.  We would like to thank all those who supported our Table Quiz last year and anyone who helped in any way.

BONE MARROW FOR LEUKAEMIA TRUST

Breege Megahey will be launching her debut CD “Beautiful Journey” in conjunction with a fundraising event in aid of Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust, on Wednesday 2nd December in the Standing Stone Hotel Ballinamore. Special guest artists on the night will be Foster & Allen, Trionagh Allen (Backing singer with Daniel O’Donnell) and a host of other talented performers including family and friends. Admission €10. All monies raised on the night, including CD sales, raffle etc will go to the charity. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

DARTS

There were only two games played in the Francis McGirl Memorial Cup Competition, sponsored by The Augnasheelin Gun Club last Friday night.  
Results were: McGirl’s (6) – Fenagh (3) – Jackie’s (5) Poor Scholar (4). It is hoped that the game between Drumcoura and The Bank Bar will be played before next Friday night.

MUSIC FOR ALL AGES – FREE CONCERT BY THE RTÉ LYRIC FM QUARTET IN BALLINAMORE LIBRARY

RTÉ lyric fm is delighted to offer a new stream of outreach activity this year. Music for all Ages is an engaging and entertaining RTÉ lyric fm outreach programme of live music performances, taking place in educational and community settings across Roscommon/Westmeath and Sligo/Leitrim. Leitrim County Library are delighted to announce that Ballinamore Library has been selected as a venue, and will host a concert on Wednesday 25th November at 4.00p.m. The concept behind this project is "Life-long learning: listen, engage, enjoy."  The programme is presented by the RTÉ lyric fm Quartet led by presenter Evelyn Grant (flute/piano), Mary McCague (violin/piano), Jean Kelly (concert harp/electric harp) and Gerry Kelly (‘cello). The RTÉ lyric fm Quartet gave most recent performances over five days at the Bloom Festival in the Phoenix Park.

This series of outreach concerts are provided free as part of RTÉ's public service commitments. All are welcome to what promises to be a most enjoyable afternoon.

A Mass of Consolation for the bereaved of the parish will be celebrated in St. Marys Church Aughnasheelin Fri Nov 20th at 8pm . All are invited, especially those who have lost loved ones in the past year.
Month of the Holy Souls: In November we remember and pray for the faithful departed in a special way. In our churches a number of masses will be offered for the deceased members of our families. It would be appreciated if you would bring in the list of those you wish to be prayed for next week end.  Envelopes with lists inserted are available in the Church Porch. Please take one and fill in the names of your deceased and return envelopes with offering to the church  at your earliest convenience.   For record purposes it would be appreciated if you would  include  your regular envelope number on these special envelopes.  These envelopes may be added to the weekly Offertory Baskets or left in special box close to altar before each mass.
Proposed Diocesan Pilgrimage to Assisi and Rome 2016 – Consideration is being given to organising a diocesan pilgrimage to Assisi and Rome in September 2016 to mark the Jubilee Year of Mercy.  Current cost is €799 per person sharing for a five night stay. Anyone interested in going is kindly asked to contact the Diocesan Pastoral Centre on 049 4375004 before lunchtime on Monday 16 November 2015 (without obligation) so that demand for such a pilgrimage can be determined.

ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) 

A limited number of places are available for this training course which is aimed at professionals and individuals who are working in an area where they are likely to come into contact with someone who is at risk of suicide.  The two-day course will take place in the Kilmore Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Cullies, Cavan, on Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 December 2015.  For further information, please contact the Centre on 049 4375004.

ASSOCIATION MEETING FOR BALLINAMORE COMMUNITY SCHOOL

The PA AGM was held in October and a new committee was elected from that meeting. So we are calling a PARENTS ONLY meeting on Tuesday November 17th at 8pm in the Community School.  We are asking all parents to attend this meeting, as this is a chance to discuss issues as they affect all Parents and Students and allow them to be formally brought forward in the next meeting detailed on calendar Tuesday 1stDecember 2015. We have had a number of volunteers to be Class Representation but many of these came after the AGM, this meeting will give us an opportunity to appoint these Representatives in a clear and fair manner.

DRUMSHANBO ENTERPRISE TOWN

Come along to Drumshanbo enterprise town weekend 20th & 21st November at the Mayflower Community Centre in Drumshanbo. Friday the 20th from 5pm to 8.30pm over 70 businesses from Drumshanbo & surrounding areas will be showcasing with guest speakers & the presentation of prizes to National School & Secondary School students on the evening. On Saturday the 21st of November from 11am to 2pm. Family fun day. Guest speaker Mickey Harte.    Mayo football Captain Keith Higgins will also be in attendance with the Nestor cup & the Sam Maguire cup.

BALLINAMORE PARENT  & TODDLER

Situated in the old medical clinic (middle of the town, on a temporary basis!) Every Wednesday 10.00a.m.-12.000p.m.

FIGHTING BLINDNESS 

Church gate collection will be taken up next weekend 21st & 22nd November 2015. Fighting Blindness is 90% funded by voluntary donations and over the last 30 years, they have invested over €10 million in research and funded over 40 projects into rare, inherited and age-related forms of sight loss. They also provide a unique, professional counselling service for people and families affected by sight loss. Therefore your support would be appreciated. 

THE CARERS ASSOCIATION

The Carers association are providing the QQI (FETAC) Level 5 Care Support Module on  12th January 2016 in Cavan. Also provided is the QQI (FETAC) Level 5 Palliative Care Module January 21st 2016 in Ballinamore Leitrim. For more info contact the training unit on 057 93 70221. 

WHEATGRASS NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION DAY

At The Nature Trail, Ballinamore on Friday 20th November from 12.00 am to 4.00 pm.  Karen from Wheatgrass4Health will provide free samples on the day. 

BALLINAMORE COMMUNITY SCHOOL

Enrolment will take place in Ballinamore Community School on Thursday 19th November 2015 7:00- 9pm. Parents wishing to enrol students are asked to bring the students PPS Number and a copy of their Birth Certificate.

‘A MORNING ON MEN'S HEALTH' IN DRUMREILLY COMMUNITY CENTRE

from 10am-2pm on Monday, 16th November. This event will include:- (1) free one to one consultations and health checks  (2) Talks on healthy eating, looking after your mental  health (3) information on the new  'men on the move programme' by the Sports Partnership.  

Lunch will also be included.  This event is free and hosted by Leitrim Development Company and Drumreilly Development Association and is focused on promoting healthy living for men in rural areas. All men welcome.

THE “SPIRIT OF MOHILL” GALA BALL

The “Spirit of Mohill” Gala ball takes place on Saturday 5th December in Lough Rynn Castle. Always a fantastic night for community and a great opportunity for your Christmas party. Hurling Medals Presentation

After waiting for 28 years to win the Senior Hurling Championship, it is great to hear that legendary Kilkenny Hurler, Richie Power, will be in the Standing Stone to present the medals on Saturday 21st November. In addition, the minors will also be presented with their medals on the same night. Everybody is welcome to attend at 10pm on the night. It will be a great occasion and great to have such a famous player present on the night.
