Tuesday 7th October at 7.30pm

Film evenings are starting back in Ballinamore Library with the acclaimed “Jimmy’s Hall”

In the 1920’s Jimmy Gralton a political activist and free thinker built a dance hall at Effernagh near Carrick-on-Shannon, where young people could dance, play music and learn.  As the hall grew in popularity its socialist and free spirited reputation brought it to the attention of the church and Jimmy was forced to flee and the hall to close.  Ten years later at the height of the depression Jimmy returns from the States and seeing the poverty and growing cultural depression in the area decides to reopen the hall, making himself an enemy of the establishment.
