Fracking Inevitable In Leitrim
Leitrim is a sliver of a county, insignificant in national terms.  It has a small population devasted by emigration, unemployment, and an over reliance on state jobs and 80% funded by the state.  This leaves us the perfect guinea pigs for state policy like closing of schools, post offices, garda stations and court houses.  Electorally we were divided by a state commission and now by the imposition of a new state refuse policy and water charges.  Fracking will be the final demise of our beloved county.  It will be delivered by the E.P.A. and outlaw state quango that boasts immunity from the law.  It is the perfect vehicle to deliver us the lethal blow; it will wipe out tourism, farming and our indigenous resources and leave us nothing but a toxic wasteland that will neither good for man or beast.

Old Crafts And Customs Of Ireland
On Tuesday 30th September, there will be an “Old Crafts and Customs of Ireland” Film being shown on the large screen in Ballinamore Library at 7.30pm.  This wonderful film was recorded in the counties of Leitrim, Cavan, Roscommon and Fermanagh in the 1990’s.  It features Traditions like Making Mud Turf, Hay, Ploughing and Pattern to the Holy Well; and Trades like Tinsmith, Wheelwright, Millar, Cooper, Blacksmith and Creelmaker.  The film duration is 75 minutes and there is no admission charge.
