Parish Mission 21ST Sept – 28TH September

Our Parish Mission will commence next weekend & will be conducted by the Redemptorist Mission Team  Fr. Brendan Keane CSsR & Fr. Ciaran O’Callaghan CSsR & Sarah Smith.   Copies of The Mission Programme will have been distributed to all homes during the past couple of weeks, copies will also be available in the porch of each church. We invite all parishioners to recite the parish mission prayer daily over the next few weeks . This is an opportunity for all parishioners  to come together as a community seeking Christ who desires a relationship with each one of us.

Northwest Hospice Coffee Morning
Takes place next Thursday the 18th September at Brids McGourty’s house between 10am and 2pm.  Your support would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Church Gate Collection takes place next weekend the 27th and 28th of September 2014.  Your support would be appreciated

Darts
The A.G.M. of the Ballinamore Dart League was held last Monday night the 8th in Jackie’s Bar, the meeting was very well attended and a lively discussion took place.  All the outgoing officers from last year chair main P.J. Fox, Vice Chairman Michael McGirl, Joint secretary Ciran Harty and Connor Scollan, Treasurer Terry Short and P.R.O. Andy Ralph were re-elected for the coming year.  There are seven teams in the League this year, the draw was made and is as follows: First named teams have home venues.  Quinn’s V Jackie’s – Ossiers V Standing Stone – Poor Scholar V Shortt’s – McGirl’s have a bye.  All teams must have their list of players for the year on the first night, which is the 3rd of October, starting time 10.30pm sharp.  That’s Friday the 3rd of October.
The Theresa McCabe Memorial Trophy Competition will take place on Sunday the 28th of October in the Poor Scholar starting on time.

Living With Suicide Day Retreat On Lough Derg

24TH September 2014

The Retreat is an invitation to people to come to a safe place where they might find some sense of healing & peace in the midst of pain and struggle.

It is a day for adults who have been affected by suicide, either through personal loss or with suicidal ideation,

or for those ministering to the suicide bereaved or working in support services.

Pastoral Assistant
St. Brigid’s Pastoral Area (comprising the parishes of Carrigallen, Corlough, Killeshandra and Oughteragh) have appointed a new pastoral assistant. Following interviews the successful candidate was Martina Gilmartin who lives in Carrick-on- Shannon. Martina will commence work next week. The primary role of the pastoral assistant will be to co-ordinate community based pre-sacramental preparation for children receiving First Communion and Confirmation and to work with their parents in the area of Christian parenting and faith formation. She will also liaise with teachers in the twelve  national schools within the pastoral  area  re- these preparation programmes. Her salary will be paid with contributions from the four parishes.  We ask God’s blessing on Martina and her important work.

Trocaire  
A cheque for €350 was recently sent to Trocaire. This money came from theTrocaire donation box in Church porch. Thanks to all who contributed.

Holy Land Collection
It would be appreciated if your contribution for the upkeep of the sacred places in the Holy land  could be brought in as soon as is convenient.  Would you be kind enough to bring other contributions up to date.

Solas Nua

Solas Nua is a programme which offers support and hope to those who have lost a husband or wife through death, and to those caught up in the traumatic aftermath of separation or suffering the loss of a long term partner. The next programme will take place on Wednesday 10th September 2014 in the Pastoral Centre, Cavan @ 8.00pm.  Please contact Cavan Family Resource Centre on 049 4371363 before 8th Sept to book a place.

Rainbows 

Rainbows  is a support programme to help children and adolescents cope with grief or loss due to Bereavement, Separation or Divorce. The next programme will start on 16th September in St. Felim’s boys N.S. Cavan @ 7.00pm and will run for 1 hour, one evening per week up to December.  Please contact Emma 087 9407528 for further details.

Mohill Family Support Centre
Organises Ballinamore Outreach Service that takes place every Wednesday from 12.30 - 14.30 in Trathnona Community Centre. For more details please contact Martina Toman on 086 6035977. 

Ballinamore Parent And Toddler Group
Is getting together every Wednesday from 11.00 - 12.30pm in Trathnona Community Centre in Ballinamore. All adults/parents/grandparents who are in the company of babies and toddlers are invited to come along for a cup of tea and a chat and let the children mix and play. Foróige Reopens

On this Monday 15th from 7 to 8.30pm in Ballinamore Vocational School.

As this is also Registration night a parent is asked to attend to sign consent forms.

Brother Tony’s Fundraiser Reaches Over €6000
The organising committee, and Brother Tony Dolan, would like to thank all the people who contributed, either financially or in any other way, to the recent fundraiser in the Standing Stone, Ballinamore. The Management and staff of the hotel; Padraig Sweeney; Aughnasheelin Scór set dancers and the Reynolds family; the ticket sellers; Shannonside Radio; The Leitrim Observer; The raffle prizes sponsors – Rinn Neimhe Salon, Cara Pharmacy, The Forge and Supervalu, Ballinamore. Sammon Builders, Michael and Detta McNiffe, Mary and Frank Mulvey and The Sliabh-an-Iarainn Book Project, Aughnasheelin. A special thanks to all who attended on the night; those who travelled distances; those who sent or lodged contributions to the account and all who generally contributed to a fantastic fundraising endeavour. Every cent of the €6,000.50 collected will be going directly to the Ugandan Project.

Ireland Biggest Coffee Morning In Aid Of North West Hospice
Will you join in with Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning and help raise funds for North West Hospice? Leitrim Republican Story

Our club man Cormac Ó Suilleabháin will launch his eagerly awaited history of republicanism in Leitrim on 3 dates in September as follows. The Bush Hotel Carrick on Shannon Thursday 18th September at 830pm; The Standing Stone Hotel, Ballinamore Friday 19th September 830pm; The Bee Park Centre, Manorhamilton Saturday 20th September 830pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Blood Transfusion Mobile Unit
team will return again to The Community Centre, Ballinamore on Wednesday 17th September 2014 from 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m and 7.00p.m. to 9.30 p.m. Some 3000 units (pints) of blood are needed overall each week to cater for emergency and routine cases requiring transfusions of blood and blood products in hospitals all over the country.  Thanks to everyone who attended the last clinic, there was a great response. Please come again to the Community Centre, Ballinamore on Wednesday 17th September 2014 and if possible bring a friend.

Wishes to advise users of this recreational trail that the section between Lock 5 Ardrum to Longstone drain to the adjacent road network will be closed from Monday 15th September to the Spring of 2015 to facilitate the extension of this recreational trail to Aghoo Bridge. Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience this may cause and thanks its customers for their cooperation in this matter.

Culture Night Friday 19th September 2014 At Solas Art Gallery

This Culture Night at Solas Art Gallery (Ballinamore), Fri 19th Sept, will be a fun evening of music, art, performance, as usual, a wee bit of everything! As our first musicians “John McCartin and Friends” are continuing on to bring more musical culture elsewhere Please Note that the evening will start promptly at 7 pm.
MC for the night will be Brian Dolan, well known for his involvement with the Aughawillan Players, almost a show on his own. Amongst the other performers will be Maggie and Mary Cassidy with flute and fiddle; the return of Gerry Harrington who plays musical instruments with a difference and for the first time playing at Solas Culture Night is Shane Cronogue, with guitar and song. Some poetry reading from Emer Lynch, and more. This evening of fun will take place in the Gallery against the backdrop of the new exhibition by Mary Wilson of lovely scenic views in oils.
As usual refreshments will be on offer, members will be on hand to help you enjoy the evening which will continue till 9.30 ish . Kilmore Diocesan Pastoral Centre Events

National Culture Night Event - As part of the programme, the Kilmore Diocesan Pastoral Centre in Cavan presents “Cantate – An Evening of Music and Text from the Sacred Tradition” in the Centre Chapel at 8:00p.m.  on Friday 19 September 2014. The evening, which is supported by the Cavan Arts Office, will feature the world premiere of a new Irish harp piece by Paul Flynn.  Admission is free but space is limited.  Those planning to attend are asked to please register by telephoning the Centre on 049 4375004.  Everyone is welcome to attend this unique event.

Culture Night / Youth Music Session
Monthly Trad Youth music session recommences after the summer break, on Friday 19th from 8-9.30pm in The Snug at the Standing Stone. All musicians welcome and it is a great opportunity for young musicians of all levels of ability. Friday night is national culture night and it will also be the Trad for Trocaire event. So please come along and enjoy the night. 

G.A.A. All Ireland Final Draw

Tickets are now on sale for this year’s All Ireland Final club draw. Tickets are €5 each or a book of 5 for €20. First prize a trip for 2 people to the All Ireland Football Final with overnight accomodation and match tickets. 2nd prize is a 2 night break for 2 people in any Brian McNiff hotel. 3rd prize is an overnight stay for 2 people in the Clarion in Sligo. 4th prize €200 cash. 5th prize Ipod.
