HEARTSAFE BALLINAMORE
Ballinamore Heartsafe
Church Gate Collection will be held on Sat 15th and Sun 16th Feb. We would appreciate your generous support once again. Last month we trained 9 new volunteers so our numbers of trained CPR and AED users in the community continues to grow. We have two people who have put themselves forward to do the trainers course and we hope that this will be completed before the summer. Previously we were able to avail of trainer training through the HSE but funding is not available presently or for the foreseeable future for those courses. Money collected will be put towards the costs of this training with the Irish Heart Foundation or alternative company. We thank you for your support.

S.N. BHRID NAOFA, BALLINAMORE.

BÉAL AN ÁTHA MÓIR SEÁN Ó HEISLIN

Béal an Átha Móir Seán Ó hEislin 125 Years young
A special thank you to everyone for joining us last Friday night in the park to celebrate 125 years of the club. It will take some more research to establish if the weather was as inclement 125 years ago as it was on Friday past, yet it was wonderful to see that the snow, rain and wind did not detract from the evening and that so many could join us to mark this special occasion. It’s safe to say that the club will have a strong and healthy future on the basis of the number of children and young people that joined us to mark this historic occasion. It was great to hear the laughter and see our young club members enjoying the facilities to the fullest. I dare say the gym will have not seen as strenuous a work out before. We had one of our oldest members Seamus Mac Murchaidh present on the night with one of the youngest his grandson, also called James, another indicator of the strong and long lasting ties families have to the club. We must give special thanks to Tommy Moran who helped bring history to life on the night with some excellent anecdotes and stories of the successes of the club over the last 125 years and it was great to see some of the instigators of this success in attendance with many of our greatest players past, present and hopefully future there. Special thanks to the excellent as ever Eunan Sweeney who braved the elements and a giant step ladder to get some excellent pictures that will be available to future generations to admire. Thanks to everyone on the night for attending and helping out, with a crack team of bakers and sandwich makers ensuring no one left hungry. Special mention to Sean McCartin who was steward in the car park on the night in difficult conditions and helped ensure everything went off without a hitch.

Comhghairdeas
Congratulation once again to the Leitrim senior team on another excellent victory with special mention to our clubman Wayne McKeon who had another excellent game.

Minor Match

Our Minor team take on St Bridget’s in the first round of the minor league this Saturday in the park at 12:00 noon.

Comhbhrón

The club would like to pass on our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Bridgie McNiffe who passed away on Friday last. Go ndéana Dia trócaire air.

Comhghairdeas
Congratulations to our own Michelle Fanning who powered to success at the All Ireland Army Track & Field event Athlone Sports Arena this week. Michelle was placed 2nd in both the shot put and long jump and placed 4th in a great time in the 3000m run narrowly missing out on the gold having led the race towards the end. Well done Michelle!!

Not So Strictly.

1972 was a memorable year for the Sean O'Heslins club, winning the U-12, U-14 and Senior Championship, Senior League and U-21 championship and one member of that U-21 winning side is returning once again to Ceannaboe. Ray McCaffrey, who many people will know as the "friendly bread man", took a medal home all those years ago. Shortly afterwards Ray headed for New York where he had a successful career with the New York Giants and the Harlem Globetrotters and also had a critically acclaimed Broadway run. After losing a close fought election for Mayor of New York Ray returned home and defected to Cavan (we won't hold that against him). Ray is now dusting off his dancing shoes to represent Corlough GAA in the Corlough/Swanlinbar "Not so strictly come dancing" competition in the Slieve Russell hotel on Sunday 16th March. Best of luck Ray!
