Fr. Liam Kelly’s Lecture in Ballinamore Library

On Tuesday 19th November at 8pm, as part of the library’s Winter Lecture Series, Fr Liam Kelly will give a talk in Ballinamore Library on Edward King Tenison pioneer photographer and M.P. for Leitrim.

Edward King Tenison (1805-78) was born at Castle Tenison, now Kilronan Castle, in January 1805. He had a privileged background studying first at Eton and then at Cambridge where he was awarded an MAdegree . He married Lady Louisa Anson in 1838 and served as a Liberal MP for Leitrim from 1847-52. He was High Sheriff for Leitrim and Roscommon and also served as a Justice of the Peace for Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo. He is, however, best known for his pioneering photography, taking excellent photographs in Ireland, France and Spain in the 1850s. Some of the photographs which he took in Leitrim in the 1850s have survived and these are among the earliest surviving photographs taken in the county. He died in June 1878 at Castle Tenison.

Admission is free and all are welcome.
