Trocaire Lenten Campaign 2013

Trocaire would like to thank most sincerely, especially in these difficult times, the priests and people of the diocese of Kilmore, for their continued support towards the work they do in the developing world. Trocaire continues to walk with those living on the margins, speaking up for the poor and challenging the wealthy and those in power to look again at how we treat the most neglected in society. Because of your on-going generosity in this years’ Lenten campaign, we can continue to make a difference.

Revolution in Connacht - A Photographic History 1913-23
A photographic history of the revolutionary period in the west of Ireland.

During 1913–23 the people of Connacht saw a Republican uprising against British rule, Civil War, World War, a land war and sectarian violence. Hundreds of incidents occurred all over the province that had local, national and even international importance, yet there is comparatively little written about the area during the time. Weaving together information and photographs, many previously unpublished, from a wide range of sources. Revolution in Connacht gives the reader an unparalleled insight into what life was life for those who fought for the Republic those who fought against, it and those who were caught in the middle. Author Information Cormac Ó Comhraí is a native of Furbo, Co. Galway, and a graduate of NUI Galway. He teaches history and Irish at second level in Galway. He has been researching the revolutionary period in the west of Ireland since he was in university and has given many public talks on aspects of local history as well as contributing to TG4 and Raidió na Gaeltachta documentaries. He was a participant in the History Ireland Hedge School held in 2012 in Clifden. He is co-editor of 'The Men Will Talk to Me: Galway Interviews by Ernie O'Malley' (Mercier Press, 2013).
