Remember the late John Curry?
Anybody who grew up in Ballinamore in the late 70’s and 80’s will remember the late John Curry. John spent many years coming on holiday to Ballinamore before coming back to spend his final years there. Throughout his years in Ballinamore John took numerous photographs, got them developed and then gave them as a keepsake to the people concerned. If there is anybody out there with any of those photos, the library would like to get a copy of them with a view to putting them together as exhibition during the summer festival. If any of you have these photos please contact the library at 071 9645566

Spring Has Arrived at Solas Galery
It seems appropriate that as the Solas Art Gallery in Ballinamore launches its Members Spring Show, opening Fri 10th May, that spring seems to have arrived at last in the country. Not only is there a bit... of colour in the hedgerows and gardens but there is a blaze of colour coming up at this forthcoming exhibition. This exhibition gives the members a chance to throw off the gloom of a very long winter and celebrate with new work. Many of the members are using new techniques, new subjects, giving a fresh feel to this exhibition. There are nearly 40 pictures, including some sculpture, on show, it is impossible to list them all or even all the artists so here is a small selection of some of the newer style work. Colourful new work from Marion O`Donoghue in the form of a still life; as well as her lovely broody landscapes; Carol Wood, who has a Solo later in the year, an interesting Ink and pen wash; Douglas Ross with his stylistic “The Interview”; Colleen Quinn with a completely new subject matter, “Open Road”, how did she get the shine on that leather jacket! Brendan Dean, always interesting, has produced some vibrant and eye catching mobile and stabiles. Also exhibiting are Jennifer Richardson and Grace Dixon (who are exhibiting after this one), Maureen Meehan, Alan McGrath, Sandra Vernon, Orlagh Murphy, Molly Richardson and more. The only way to find out what is on show is to pop in and see, better still, come to the opening and meet some of the artists. The opening is on Fri 10th May and will be presented by Gabrielle Flynn, acting County Librarian, who is an accomplished artist herself. The exhibition runs until Sat 1st June, gallery opening hours the same as Four Seasons Garden Centre, Mon-Sat, 10-6pm. Please don’t forget that the popular Drawing Day at Solas will also be taking place on Sat 18th May For any Queries please contact Gail or Ben, 071 9644210; our website www.solasart.ie or become a friend on facebook.
