Parish Council Meeting
At the meeting of the Parish Council on 11th Feb the following matters were raised,
Child Safeguarding - All volunteers involved in any aspect of church activities are required to submit a completed Parish Staff and Volunteer/Declaration Form to the Parish Child Safeguard Rep. Marion Quinn. In the coming weeks all groups will be contacted to ensure the required forms have been submitted.
Year of Faith 2013 – There will be a number of courses, lectures and events to enable people to improve their knowledge and understanding of the teachings and catechism of the church taking place in the Diocesan Pastoral Centre throughout the course of the year, these will be highlighted in the newsletter in advance to allow those interested to participate. We hope to organise a one day pilgrimage to Lough Derg in August and also to Knock shrine.
New Cemetery Plots - It is hoped to soon open up the new section of the cemetery and make new plots available. Before this happens the Parish Council would welcome feedback from parishioners in relation to plot sizes, kerbing, etc. Please feel free to submit your thoughts, ideas or suggestions to your Parish Council Representative in advance of the next meeting.
Heating in the Church – The issue of heating in the church was discussed, it is widely felt that the present system is not providing adequate heating over the winter and the matter is being brought to the Finance Committee to look at what can be done to improve and rectify the situation.
Church Celebrates 50 Years - Our Church celebrates 50 years this year. It was dedicated on 12 May 1963 and we hope to mark this special occasion in the parish with a Re-dedication ceremony later in the year. It would be nice to mark the occasion in some way, maybe putting together a small booklet on the fifty years of the Church, a record of all the clergy that have served here over these years, nuns, the first baptism/ communion / confirmation to take place in the church, wedding, local priest’s first mass’s over the years, communion & confirmation groups over the five decades, any other events /items that would contribute to marking this important milestone, To make this possible we would want to get any pictures / photo’s of such events - have you any such items that could be used? Items about the lay people of the community who worshipped and prayed there over the years.
To get started on this there will be a meeting in Community Centre - upstairs meeting room shortly ,If you are willing to help out or be involved in any way Please contact Parish Council Secretary, Mary Corby ,
