The Francis McGirl Memorial Cup Competition resumed again last Friday night after the Christmas break. There was good wins for McGirl’s over Shortt’s (A), Fenagh over Jackie’s and Ossies over Freddie’s. The points to date are:

Connaught Success for Mc Cartin SD
The Connaught Irish Dancing championships were held recently in the Landmark Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon. With in excess of 800 dancers competiting from South Donegal to Galway local Irish dance school the Mc Cartin SD collected 272 prizes at the three day event with 60 pupils qualifying for the All Ireland Championships: The winners Included:

Community Operation Transformation
Ballinamore Sean O’ Heslin’s Operation Transformation will be starting with a registration night on Wednesday the 16th January at 8.30pm in Ballinamore SOH GAA Gym. New Charity Coffee Shop in Carrick-on-Shannon
Welcome to a new concept in relaxing and fundraising!
The Chari-tea and coffee Company is a completely new concept in fundraising for the Irish Wheelchair Association in Co. Leitrim. We hope to raise funds for our local initiatives from donations from our free tea and coffee shop. You get to enjoy a little treat and our members will get to enjoy the services implemented by the funds raised. We hope that you will call in for a coffee and a light bite when you are next in Carrick -on-Shannon. We're located on Castlecarragh Road, across from the new Aldi Store and are open from Monday to Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm.

Training resumes at the Sports Hall on Tuesday evening at 6.00 p.m. There is a varied programme of activities between now and Easter with the 2013 Primary Schools Sports Hall Athletics, Leitrim Indoor Championships, Connacht Indoor Championships taking place in the new International Indoor Stadium at Athlone IT, road races and Post Primary Schools Cross Country. New members welcome.

Want to improve your Irish?
Each year, Irish conversation classes or Ciorcal Comhrá, are run in Ballinamore Library. These classes are hugely popular every year and big numbers attend. They will start again on 8 January at 8.30pm. There are separate groups for relative beginners, for those who have some Irish and for those who are fluent. These classes are a great opportunity to practice the Irish you know and to improve it. Leaving Cert or transitional year students will also find them useful for practice for their Irish orals. Ballinamore Business and Tourism Forum
In conjunction with Ireland Travel Plus are hosting a 5 day coarse angling match Date Mon May 20th to Fri May 24th , showcasing our local waters. Lakes to include: Kiltybarden, Garadice- Houghtons, Connollys and Church An application for funding will be submitted to Inland Fisheries Ireland in the New Year to create an attractive prize fund. We are delighted to be associated with Ireland Travel Plus who was the Travel Partner and Event Organiser for the very successful World Pairs Angling Championship in September ’12. This is an opportunity for Ballinamore to re-establish itself nationally and internationally as an angling destination. We are aware that the Benelux King of Clubs competition will no longer take place in Ireland and we hope to offer former participants an alternative event.
