Ballinamore Boys School celebrated its 50th year on Fri Nov 30th. The ‘new school’ opened in 1962.

Today’s pupils put on a show based on the world of 1962 hosted by Gay Byrne. Mohammed Ali, Martin Luther King and President John F Kennedy were among the invited guests. They also invited back representatives of the class who ‘graduated’ that year, Michael Costello, Josie Creamer and Jim Smith. An oak tree was planted and a time capsule was buried to mark the occasion. The time capsule contained such items as a copy of the Leitrim observer, a maths book, some stationery items, a book on Olympian Katie Taylor.

A huge audience enjoyed live performances from The Beatles and Elvis. Stories of the old school days were exchanged with former teachers and pupils and the parents association provided a lovely party for everyone. The current teachers and pupils are to be congratulated on delivering an excellent occasion.
