Carrickmakeegan
A Tragedy Remembered - Many people from Ballinamore will remember one of the saddest tragedies that has ever happened in Leitrim,

where six young people were drowned in a terrible boating accident at Carrickmakeegan on the 23rd August 1942. To mark the 70th

Anniversary,   family and friends of victims, survivors and rescuers will discuss the details and the aftermath of the drowning in

Ballinamore Library on Saturday 23rd August at 5.30pm.  There will also be an exhibition and a short video which was recorded 10

years ago.  Anyone who has an interest in this topic or who would like to make a contribution will be most welcome.  Further

information can be got from Mary Conefrey at 0719645567.

The Emmaus team have produced a new programme of spiritual renewal specifically developed for the people of Ireland. The Croí Nua

programme consists of a series of small group gatherings based on reflective reading, group sharing and prayer. A session of the

programme was piloted in the centre last summer and was very positively received. I believe that its promotion could be a very

useful way to mark the upcoming ‘Year of Faith’ throughout the diocese. Members of the Emmaus team will be here in the Pastoral

Centre on Wednesday September 12th from 7.30pm to 9pm to present information on the programme and how it can be implemented in

parishes. You are invited to come along and I would ask you to bring along a small delegation from your parish..
