Cavan County Museum will host a unique History Conference entitled ‘Melting Down’ Exploring Themes of Emigration, Exile and Place August 10th from 7.30 p.m. – 9.30 p.m. and Saturday 11th.August 9.30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Speakers include Dr Patrick Fitzgerald, Professor John Mannion, Dr Brenda Collins, Arthur Sullivan and Dr Patrick O’Connor. The conference will also include excerpts of ‘An American Wake’ performed by the Ulster American Folkpark, Omagh on Friday 10th and an excerpt of ‘The Field’ performed by Crosserlough Drama Group on Saturday 11th August. The North West Simon Community Sincere thanks to all who contributed to the church gate collection on 21st & 22nd July for The North West Simon Community. Thanks to the collectors, a total of €562.84 was collected which goes towards providing the housing support service and lifeskills training programme in the area. As the demand for the services of the North West Simon increase in the current climate, fundraising is vital for the survival of the charity, further information on the services the North West Simon Community provide in Sligo, Leitrim & Donegal can be accessed at www.northwestsimon.ie.

This scheme is available free of charge to homes which meet the following criteria: owner occupied, non-Local Authority homes constructed before 2002. The owner is in receipt of one of the following: (1) Fuel Allowance as part of the National Fuel Scheme. (2) Job Seekers Allowance for over six months and with children under 7 years of age. This scheme is funded by Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and Pobal and aims to improve the energy efficiency of homes occupied by low income families. We provide attic and cavity wall insulation free of charge to eligible people. Around 60,000 Irish households are estimated to live in persistent fuel poverty and a further 160,000 experience intermittent fuel poverty.
BALLINAMORE SHOW TUESDAY 14TH AUGUST 2012 - Exhibitors are reminded that entries for this year’s Show close on Monday 6th August. The Show Office is located at High Street, Ballinamore. Fleadh dates for your Diary
This year at the Fleadh in Cavan two spectacular free events will take place at the Cathedral, Cavan. The first will be on Friday 10th August at 9.30pm called “Good works” which is an art service conducted by John Byrne and accompanied by the famous Dublin Palestrina Choir. John Byrne has been associated with the Arts in Cavan having presented the spectacular casting light production in the 2010 & 2011 fleadh. This service inside the Cathedral will include musicians, soloist singers along with readings and reflections. This beautiful service celebrating music and the arts is open to all and will be a memorable evening of celebration. The second event also on Friday August 10th will take place at 10.15pm on the steps and Front Square of the Cathedral and is called “Rite of Spring” by Breandan De Gallai, former River Dance artist in association with Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Company. Nearly 100 years after its first performance this spectacular presentation is inspired by the Stravinsky Ballet and is a unique blend of dance, light and sound to incorporate aerial dance, Irish and contemporary dance with classical and traditional music. An spectacular event not to be missed !!! Both events are free of charge and open to all.
