 COUNTY FUNCTION FOR OUR TWO OLYMPIANS
Murtaghs’ Bar in Carrick on Shannon are hosting a fundraiser for Leitrim Olympians Colin Griffin and Laura Reynolds on Friday July 20th at 9 00 p.m.  The two Leitrim athletes will be in action in the Olympic Games in London on Saturday August 11th, Colin in the 50K Walk at 9 00 a.m. and Laura in the Women’s’ 20k Walk at 5.00 p.m. on what will be a historic day for Leitrim
Tickets are on sale at €10 each and various clubs in Carrick on Shannon have undertaken to sell tickets to friends and family in an effort to raise much needed funds for the two Leitrim athletes. Tickets can also be bought on the night.
All musicians and entertainers are giving their services free of charge and at the moment these include Jim Butler, Tom Gleeson, Fergus and Fergal Harman and D J Rory O Brien.  Tickets and posters are sponsored by Gartlans Internet Café and Sign Warehouse, food is sponsored by Murtaghs’ Bar.
The event is being organised under the auspices of Murtaghs and Carrick on Shannon Athletic Club. Siobhan Murtagh herself is a former juvenile Irish International athlete and double National Community Games Gold medal winner.

Ballinamore's Womens Group
A trip to Ennistymon, co Clare has been organised for Ballinamore Women's group from the 14th to the 17th of September next. Cost of trip which includes transport, meals and accommodation is €275 for members and €285 for non members. Fr Liam Lawton will host a special concert with acclaimed pianist, singer and harpist Marie-Therese McCartin and choir on Sunday 12th August - 7.30pm in the Liberty Insurance Dome as part of Fleadh Cheoil. Tickets are available from MultiSound Cavan or online www.fleadhcheoil.ie

Apostolic Society is holding a Church Gate Collection on Sat 28th & Sun 29th July for the Foreign Missions.  All donations gratefully accepted and all money goes directly to the Priests and Nuns on the Missions.  Our society have only 3 members and is in danger of going altogether so if anyone would like to join or collect at a gate.  We would be very grateful.  Thanks for all your support over the years.  Phone 087 6175100.

ATHLETIC CLUB We will have few members in action when the Woodies DIY National Under Age Athletics Championships conclude in Tullamore next Saturday. Only a short time now until our two Leitrim athletes, Colin Griffin and Laura Reynolds, are in action at the London Olympics on Saturday August 11th.Our Festival Roadraces take place on Wednesday August 15th at 7 30 p.m.

The Knock Summer Festival
is taking place on Saturday 28th July. This day will be full of talks, workshops, music, prayer and reflection. The theme for the day is ‘ONE’. Why not come and join us for this day. Readers Group Symposium
The opening night on Thursday 2 August will have a sports theme and will have a panel with Colm O’Rourke, former Meath footballer and Trevor Ringland former Ireland rugby player included. The GAA President, Liam Ó Néill will officially open the Symposium. Admission is free and will include a performance by Séamus O’Rourke.

Leitrim Development Company is inviting applications for their Warmer Homes Project.  This scheme is available free of charge to homes which meet the following criteria: owner occupied, non-Local Authority homes constructed before 2002.  The owner is in receipt of one of the following: (1) Fuel Allowance as part of the National Fuel Scheme.  (2) Job Seekers Allowance for over six months and with children under 7 years of age.  (3) Family Income Support. L.D.C operates the Warmer Homes Scheme in this area.  This scheme is funded by Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and Pobal and aims to improve the energy efficiency of homes occupied by low income families.  We provide attic and cavity wall insulation free of charge to eligible people.  Around 60,000 Irish households are estimated to live in persistent fuel poverty and a further 160,000 experience intermittent fuel poverty.

Active Age – Attention!! All members, friends & neighbours.  A meeting in Drumreilly Centre on Wednesday 1st August at 8.30pm.  Lorraine Mulvey from the Community Out Reach Digital switchover programme will be there to enable people to make the switch over from analogue signal on 24th October 2012. Local retailers will be there to give advice & guidance on the switch over.  We need to make sure nobody is left out.

Cavan Feis Success
The final competition of the Irish dancing year was held recently in the Cavan Crystal Hotel, Cavan Town.   The CRN Feis Rince Breffni welcomed competitors from across  Ireland,  pupils form the Mc Cartin SD made the short trip to compete and collected an array of prizes.
