Leitrim Shared Platform Event in the Commercial Hotel, Ballinamore, Thursday 11th November.
What is Addiction and where can you Find Confidential Help or Advice?
Leitrim Addictions Awareness will be hosting a shared platform on Thursday 11th November in the Commercial Hotel, Ballinamore. The event will begin at 7.30pm, with refreshments served around 9.30pm
When the word addiction is used most people invariably think of drugs or alcohol, but how many other people in our communities are suffering from the lesser publicised addictions which can be every bit as debilitating or cause as much suffering for the person, their family, friends or work colleagues? What about eating disorders, gambling, prescription drugs? All things or activities that for the majority of us is all legal? But where do you turn for advice when the activity becomes excessive and leads to regular abuse of a substance, legal or illegal? Would you know where to turn for advice or help if you suspected a loved one or someone you care about was suffering from an addiction, or they were doing themselves harm, or they were doing something, taking something, which carried a risk of harm?
Leitrim Addictions Awareness would like to emphasise that these events are for the general public to attend and find out about local supports so please come along as we all know of someone who has suffered through addiction related issues of one kind or another.
Leitrim County Council has recognised the importance of this initiative by providing financial support for these shared platform events, something which is much appreciated by the voluntary group organising the shared platform events. Leitrim County Council has agreed to provide up to €1,000 via the Community & Voluntary Sector Grants Scheme 2010. The “shared platform” gives people the opportunity to find out what services are on offer for the local community and to listen
