Ballinamore Whist Drive

The usual first Thursday of the month (4th Nov) whist drive in the Community Centre will be starting at the winter time of 8.30pm.  Looking forward to seeing all the whist players, newcomer’s always welcome.

Celtic Choristers Dublin sing for the North-West Hospice

The Celtic Choristers Male Voice Choir, Dublin will present a diverse programme of Spiritual, Traditional, Popular and Classical Music and song in St. Patrick’s Church Ballinamore on Saturday November 13th at 8.30pm.  The music and choral work will suit all tastes and all ages.

Guest Soloist is Teresa Carley, while the compare is Tony Donnelly, a member of Celtic Choristers.  Teresa and Tony are also leading members of Anna Martin Memorial Choir in Ballinamore.

The musical director is Ethel Glancy, while the Accompanist and Soloist is Lina Butorina – Kiva.  All proceeds go the North-West Hospice, a very worthy cause.  Tickets €10 are available locally or by calling Mary Curran 086-2324885 or Tommy Moran 0868588031 or just come along on the night.

This concert is a unique opportunity to enjoy a show with a difference and at the same time support a good cause.  The local organisers extend thanks to the Celtic Choristers Choir for agreeing to travel to Ballinamore and also Fr. Charles Heerey P.P. and the Parish Council for the use of St. Patrick’s Church.

Successful Drumreilly Feis

The annual CRN Drumreilly Feis, hosted by local dance school the Mc Cartin SD was held recently. The Feis attracted large entries from across the west, north and midlands which resulted in over 10 hours of competitions. The adjudicators for the Feis Ms Siobhan Crowley ADCRN and Ms Pauline Daly ADCRN and the musician Mr Donal Kelly all made the journey from Dublin to Drumreilly for the Feis. The Church of Ireland, Church Street, Ballinamore, Sunday service is at 12.15pm every Sunday except on the 4th Sunday which is held in Drumreilly Church, Drumreilly.

Heartsafe AGMThe AGM for the Ballinamore Heartsafe will be held on Thursday 4th November at 9pm in the Community Centre. Anyone in the community is welcome to attend this meeting whether they have been doing the Defib training or not. It is everyone’s opportunity to be informed of the progress made and the plans for the next year. There will also be time for anyone to ask questions or make suggestions. The committee would appreciate your attendance.

Ministers of The Word – We want to express our gratitude to our Ministers of the Word.  They set a very high standard.  A new rota is starting on Nov 1st.  We would be glad to have more volunteers for the new year.  If interested please give your name to Fr. Heerey.

PARC Road Safety Group is holding an inter-dominational ceremony for World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in Buncrana at The Buncrana Youth Centre, Castle Avenue, Co. Donegal at 2pm on Sunday the 21 November. All are invited to attend. The injured and the relatives of those killed are particularly welcome. A meeting of Ballinamore Women’s group takes place in  Tráthnóna on Wednesday, the 3rd of November at 8pm. Sarah Compton, teacher of the ‘Alexander technique’  ( a method for improving posture and for alleviating back pain, stress and many common ailments) will be the speaker on the night. All members are asked to attend and new members are welcome.

Alzheimer Society Annual Church Gate Collection will be taken up at Churches this weekend. The money will be used locally to help families for loved one with Alzheimer’s disease.  Your support would be greatly appreciated.

World Youth Day will take place next year in Madrid (August 15th –21st). A group of young people from the diocese between the ages of 18 and 30 will travel to Madrid. An information night will take place in the Kilmore Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Cavan, on Friday November 12th at 8.30pm. Youth from all parishes are welcome to attend.

ATHLETIC CLUB
TEAM VICTORY IN BALLINAMORE
Well done to Ballinamore Athletic Club quartet of Jack Gilheany, Oisin McLoughlin, Riordan O Rourke and Ciaran Kenny on winning the Connacht Under 12 Boys Cross Country title in Ballina on Sunday last. In addition Ryan O Rouke took third position in the Under 14 race and four other members, Eilis O Dowd, Laura O Dowd, Aine Heslin and Ciara O Dowd qualified for the All Ireland in Derry on Sunday November 28th. Training is now from 6.00 to 7.00 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday at the Sports Hall.
WINTER SEASON
The Winter Season at the Sports Hall commenced on Monday. Groups and Clubs which booked slots they held last year are given priority for the same times this year. All available positions are being allocated this week and any group which have not yet booked for this year will lose their priority.

Ballinamore Active Age -Bus will leave the Square at 7.15p.m.on next Wednesday 3rd November to attend the Breffni Players two one act Plays. Swimming has been cancelled on Wednesday 3rd November but will resume the following Wednesday 10th November 2010.Water Aerobics Classes continue on Thursday 4th November as usual. Computer Classes have been planned to resume January 2011 for 10 hours.

Ballinamore Area Senior Citizens -an important meeting of the Ballinamore Area Senior Citizens Committee will be held next Thurs night Nov 4th at 9.15pm in Tráthnóna to make arrangements for the forthcoming Christmas Party. All members are asked to attend.

Landscape Photography for All.

As part of their Winter Lecture Programme 2010-1011, Leitrim County Library will host a talk by renowned Ballinamore photographer Eunan Sweeney in Ballinamore Library on Thursday 4 November at 8.30pm.

The lecture is open to all and is an opportunity for anyone who has an interest in photography or in improving their photography skills to come along and avail of Eunan’s advise.  Remember admission is free.

“Halloween Fun for Scouts – 1st Leitrim Scouts welcomed fellow Scouts from  Carrick-on-Shannon and Longford to join in a spooky night hike out from the Marina in Ballinamore, alongside the canal to Aughnasheelin Community Hall on Friday 29th October.  The hike was followed by fun, games, disco, quiz and fancy dress in the hall, the evening was rounded off with mini hot air balloons being released into the night sky, it was a brilliant night.  On Saturday morning the Venture Scouts set up bases on the way up to St Patrick’s Well which all the Scouts enjoyed, the day was finished off with a Scouts Own at the Well and then prize giving back at the Hall.  It was a great Halloween Scouting Event and we would like to thank Longford and Carrick Scouts for joining us and making it a very enjoyable outing.  Many thanks also to Aughnasheelin for allowing us the use of their Hall.”

A Country Music Extravaganza Monday night 8th November
