Michael Prendergast Memorial Cup
Rinn-Shannon & District Angling Club held its annual fly-fishing competition on the crystal clear waters of Lough Rowan brown trout fishery on Sunday 19th September. While most people were sitting down to watch Cork defeat Down in Croke park many brave anglers were already afloat casting their flies into the unknown depths in an attempt to capture the fish that would seal their victory in this prestigious event. Despite the intermittent showers, conditions were perfect with many boats rising fish on their first few drifts. At the end of the day Noel Moran’s catch of 3 trout proved to be the winner. A regular winner at Lough Rowan, Noel’s dedication and knowledge of the fishery proved invaluable as he just edged out Ballinamore angler Tony Gallagher by 3ozs.
The results are as follows:
Winner- Noel Moran, Drumsna,        3 trout     (3lb- 9ozs)
2nd – Tony Gallagher, Ballinamore ,   2 trout     (3lb- 6ozs)
3rd- Val Fitzpatrick, Mohill,                  1 trout    (1lb- 15ozs)
Heaviest Fish- Alan Gallagher, Ballinamore ,   (3lb- 2ozs)
R.S.D.A.C would like to thank all the members of the Prendergast family for providing the excellent cup and trophies for this event and its members for their continued support throughout the year. For images of the event go to www.rinnnshannon.com.

I have been looking at the pictures that Eunan Sweeney has got on the web site. They capture the feeling of a very vibrant town, with all the changes the town has managed to keep its character.
