Not only is there a Festival in Ballinamore but there is a festival of memories opening at the Solas Gallery in Ballinamore, this Friday the 13th August at 7.30. “Memory Lane “is the new exhibition by well known Ballinamore artist, Colleen Quinn, her second solo show at the Gallery since its opening.

BALLINAMORE FESTIVAL LITERARY HERITAGE TOUR
As a result of overwhelming demand, the Literary Heritage Tour makes a welcome return to this year’s festival, on Wednesday 11th August. The tour will be led by Dr Frank Brennan and will incorporate a bus trip around the area, stopping at various points of interest including John McGahern’s grave in Aughawillan and the Glenview Folk Museum at Kennedy’s, Aughoo. This year’s programme will include many new and interesting anecdotes and promises to surpass the outstanding entertainment of previous years. The event will commence from the library at 2.00 p.m. sharp and will return to Ballinamore at about 6.00. Spaces are limited so it is essential to reserve a place either through the library (071 96 45566) or Damien Prior (071 96 44884).
Ballinamore Boxing Club

Reunion 1980-85 Class – We are calling on all students, who started in 1980 and were part of the 1980-1985 era attending Ballinamore secondary schools, to a 25 Year Re-Union. It will be held on Friday 13th Aug and will commence with Mass celebrated by Rev Thomas Keoghan at 7pm in St Felim’s followed by refreshments and entertainment in Smyth’s Siopa Ol. Partners are most welcome, but entirely optional. We would also like to invite any past teachers to join us at anytime during the evening. Sean O’Heslins - Seálta ná Seachtaine Solas Art Gallery Exhibition

Ballinamore Harvest Jamboree – Three weeks to go to the Jamboree Weekend. Preparations for the American Tea Party are continuing. Wanderings in Leitrim and Afar by Kevin J. O’Connell
The Launch of Wanderings in Leitrim and Afar by Kevin J. O’Connell will take place in Ballinamore Library on Thursday August 12th at 8pm Kevin was born near Ballinamore and was working as an engineer with RTE, he served in many roles with RTE, progressing to Director of Engineering for 13 years prior to his retirement. His newly published book Wanderings in Leitrim and Afar chronicles a journey into his personal history and growing up Ballinamore. The book cover a broad range of topics and wider horizons ie poetry, plays and much more.
The Citizens Information Mobile Unit will be at the Ballinamore Show on Tuesday 10th August; in Mohill on Wednesday 11th August 2010 from 10:30am -3pm; Dromod 4pm – 5pm and in Carrick-on-Shannon on Thursday 12 August from 10:30am – 4pm. Speech and Drama Classes
Starting in September in the Shaylin Centre, Ballinamore for kids aged between 7 and 11 years. Classes will take place on Thursday’s afterschool and will be run by a qualified Teacher. During the class, the kids will work on aspects of Voice, Drama, Acting and Mime, in a fun and imaginative environment. They will also have an opportunity to compete in feiseanna and achieve Irish Board of Speech and Drama grades.

Historical address to Bishop Patrick Finegan to be displayed in BallinamoreLibrary after 100 years
A historic illuminated address presented by the people of Ballinamore to their parish priest Reverend Patrick Finegan, as he was about to become Bishop of Kilmore in 1910 will be put on public display in Ballinamore Library.
Fr Finegan served as parish priest of Oughteragh/Ballinamore from 30th October 1908 until 13th August 1910. He was held in high esteem by the people of Ballinamore, so much so that he was presented with an elaborate and eloquent address, in which he was praised for his ‘piety, scholarship and patriotism’ and described a ‘Father, Guide and Friend’.
This framed address is now being launched in Leitrim County Library, Ballinamore on Friday August 13th at 4pm. The launch will mark 100 years from the address was presented to Bishop Finegan. It is quite a unique event and everyone is welcome.

What a wonderful job the Tidy Towns committee and workers have done this year and every year to keep Ballinamore looking colourful and attractive. And also the brilliant job most of the town business and residents have made with beautiful arrays of flowers. And a special thanks to the people in Ballinamore Rehab who work throughout the year to keep parts of Ballinamore tidy. Now it’s up to us to be more careful of how we get rid of our rubbish and at all times BIN IT.
BALLINAMORE ROADRACE ON WEDNESDAY
There will be some traffic disruption for a short time on Wednesday evening around 7 30 p.m. because of above. Race Headquarters will be at the Sports Hall, both 10K and 5K will start just below Sean O Heslin GAA Park and both will finish at Mean Scoil Fatima with the 5K going straight out past Ardrum and the 10K up by the Golf Course and coming in by Ballyduff. Parking will be restricted for a period on Swanlinbar Road and on Golf Course Road from McWeeneys up. While the races are coming down the Main Street through traffic should divert via Tesco. All are asked to co-operate with the Gardai and stewards
