BALLINAMORE SPORTS ON MONDAY
Ballinamore’s Annual Bank Holiday Open Sports takes place at St Felim’s on Monday (7th) with entries taken from 2.00.p.m. There are events for all ages from Under 7 up to Senior. Should the weather, unlike recent years, be inclement entries will be taken in the Sports Hall and the programme will be run off as quickly and efficiently as possible. Otherwise arrangements will be as in recent years.

Scoil Naisiunta Bhrid Naofa Parent’s Association
Are running a 6 week Speech & Drama Workshop in conjunction with Frank Cadam. Classes have now been running for 3 weeks. A show date is set for Thursday 17th June.

Only two weeks to go now, so we urge all our participants to work hard on the sponsorship and keep up the cycling practice. A Parish cycle is arranged for this Sunday evening starting at the Community Centre at 5pm. Also there will be a town cycle on Wednesday starting at the Clubhouse at 7.00.

The Annual Music, Dance and Arts Summer School returns to Ballinamore from the 12th to the 16th of July. Ballinamore Women’s Group – A women’s weekend away is been organised form 27 Aug to 30 Aug in Hotel Kilkenny. Cost 275euro p.p.s. This includes 3 night’s B&B, 3 dinners, transport, and tour of either Waterford, Wexford or Tipperary. BALLINAMORE TIDY TOWNS
Judging in the National Tidy Towns competition commences on June 1st and continues during July and August. Thank you to everybody, both business people and private householders who are painting their premises, tidying up, putting up flower boxes and hanging baskets. We are asking the public to play their part in keeping the town and the approach roads clear of litter and looking good, as the judges can arrive at any time during June for the first round of adjudication.
The Head Sheaf – Following the success of the mountain trilogy an opportunity has arisen whereby it may be possible to have a film documentary made on the life and times of the people of Sliabh-an-Iarainn. In order to enhance these prospects and to make the story adaptable for T.V. the project committee have decided to publish a 222 page book, consisting of 47 specially commissioned, well researched new articles, together with 8 previously released and historically important articles which have now been enhanced and updated. The book contains circa 250 photographs and will be published under the title “The Head Sheaf” This book is now with the printers and will be released on Sunday Aug.1st. 2010 starting with concelebrated mass of “The Head Sheaf” in St. Patrick’s Church, Ballinamore at 6 p.m. and afterwards the launching ceremony in the Bush Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon. As part of the weekend activities a special memorial mass in memory of the people who were involved with this project and have now passed on, will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Aughnasheelin at 12 noon on Saturday 31st July. We thank you for your marvellous support during this project and we will inform you in due course of the other activities for “The Head Sheaf” weekend.
Remembering the Cavan Orphanage Fire
Everyone welcome – Tuesday June 15 at 8.00pm. 35 children died in the fire at the Cavan Orphanage in 1943. We invite you to come and spend an evening remembering and praying for the children, and the elderly lady that died on the night. It will be held in St. Clare’s Chapel Courtyard, Main St, Cavan, where the fire occurred. It will give us all a chance to reflect on the past and pray for those who died. Sponsored Cycle
The Parents Association for St. Patrick’s Boys National School have organised a sponsored cycle for the pupils out the Golf Links Road on Thursday 17th June, between 9:30 & 11:30 a.m. This is in association with Bike Week and Leitrim Sports Partnership.
Celebrate Midsummer with North West Hospice
The Hospice have come up with a novel fundraising idea – to get as many people as possible walking together on 23rd June at 7.30p.m. throughout the North West Hospice Area with a view to raising a minimum of €60k for the capital refurbishment of the Hospice. Short walks commencing at 7.30p.m. are being organised by all communities within the area and your coordinator in this area is Maureen Martin. There is a suggested registration fee of €10 per person or €20 per family. Registration forms may be obtained from Maureen. We plan to walk out to the Golf Club House and back. Community Smoke Alarm Scheme
Leitrim County Council are currently implementing a further roll out of the Community Smoke Alarm Scheme. Under this Scheme vulnerable households are identified and arrangements are made for the supply and if necessary the installation of two smoke alarms. The Scheme applies to privately owned houses. If you think this Scheme applies to your household or you are aware of a household who you feel should be considered under the Scheme, you should complete a nomination form and return it for assessment to the address given below.
