I am travelling to Ireland this year and my family roots are tied up in Ballinamore. My mother Brigid McGourty was born in Boggaun to Patrick and Brigid McGourty (nee Burns) They were a farming family. I have family buried in the Aghnasheelin cemetry. My parents also worked for Francis Prior wh had a farm on the Ardrum? Road-at the end of town past the school and towards the river. Is there an historical society or museum etc that would be worth my while visiting when in Ballinamore? sincerely, Veronica Moloney nee Prior
Hi Veronica,
A good place to start would be the Leitrim Genealogy Centre. They are located here in Ballinamore. Their website is http://www.leitrimroots.com/. I hope that helps…
